David will advocate for community-oriented policing to build continued trust between law enforcement and residents. He will support ongoing engagement through outreach events like Ride-Alongs, Coffee with a Cop, and National Night Out. David will champion funding for both fire and police to ensure safety and promote data-driven approaches to invest in violence and fire prevention and conflict resolution programs.
Housing is a critical issue for many Woodland working families, and as a Council Member, David will support private partnerships to finance housing development. He will focus on utilizing city-owned properties or acquiring land for housing development within the urban limit line. Additionally, he will work with his council colleagues to ensure ordinances are updated and encourage opportunities for future housing.
Homeless services are a nationwide issue. He supports continuing the Homeless Outreach Streets Team and will advocate for enhanced training for police officers in handling mental health crises, as well as integrating mental health professionals into emergency response teams, similar to the Crisis Now model. Addressing encampments humanely while providing resources is crucial for improving the city. David believes it is essential to maintain funding for these programs to effectively reduce homelessness.
Workforce development is a collaborative effort involving government, education, business, and community partners to create effective workforce strategies. By leveraging resources from Yolo County, Woodland Community College, and UC Davis, David plans to build an educational pipeline aligned with regional economic needs. Expanding apprenticeship programs with local labor organizations will provide hands-on training and direct job placement. This comprehensive approach will enhance skill development, drive sustainable economic growth, and prepare the workforce for the future job market.
Addressing the needs of both children and seniors is a top priority for David’s city council campaign. For child care, he recognizes the growing demand for affordable, high-quality options and the need to support family and friends who serve as caregivers. David aims to expand access to professional training for these caregivers and improve child care facilities to ensure every child receives the support they need. For senior citizens, he will continue supporting programs such as comprehensive community ride-sharing initiatives to ensure mobility and independence, along with improving access to in-home supportive services. By focusing on these critical areas, David envisions building a more inclusive and supportive community for all ages.
